Will driving during a ‘Red Weather Warning’ void your insurance?

With storm ‘Emma’ set to batter the country over the next few days, many areas have been issued with a ‘Red’ weather warning from the Met Office, meaning the weather is likely to cause damage and poses a potential risk to life.

It goes without saying that you should abide to this warning, and travel should only be made if absolutely necessary.  Staying safe is the number one priority during this period.

However, we’ve had a number of enquiries this morning from people concerned that their motor insurance would be void if they have to travel during a Red Weather Warning.  This is not the case.  Your insurance should still be valid during the warning, if you have to travel.  But please note this is generalised advice (not specific to all motor insurance policies), so if you are in doubt it is best to check with your provider.
