Here you can find out more about the company behind the service. Caleb Roberts has seven offices across Wales & the Border Counties, a business that has grown much over 75 years.
The name Caleb Roberts has been synonymous with Insurance in Powys and the border counties for more than 80 years, only changing on Caleb’s retirement in 1975 to Caleb Roberts Insurance Services under the management of Paul Campbell and Ruth Davies. In the early years Caleb served the farming community in many different ways selling for Robert Young and Co, booking on market days for McCartney’s the auctioneers – even working part time as a voluntary ambulance driver and special constable. It was because of his commitment to and popularity within the local community that he became so successful as an Alliance Insurance Agent in the early years.
The business has expanded over the years and now operates from 6 offices in Knighton, Builth Wells, Brecon, Welshpool, Bromyard and Church Stretton and whilst farming and related trades remain at the heart of the company’s business the group deals with all forms of Commercial and Personal Insurance and can provide Independent Financial advise via it’s associated Company Caleb Roberts Financial Management.
Hugh and Charles Campbell, Ivor Williams and Clive Podd took control of the business after Ruth and Paul retired in 2001 and have taken the business to new levels of expansion and professional expertise. Shortly after Clive’s retirement in 2016, Jeanette Fox was promoted to Director of HR & Compliance.
In 2010 Caleb Roberts Insurance Services Limited acquired Longmynd Insurance of Church Stretton with Robert Oakley joining the board of directors of Caleb Roberts Insurance Services Limited. Whilst Rob stepped back from the board in 2017, the acquisition of Longmynd Insurance continues to enhance the business further by bringing Longmynd Insurances’ Wholesale Division which provides Farm Insurance to various brokers within the UK and Northern Ireland. The office moved from Church Stretton to a larger premises based in Dorrington in 2019 to future proof business development in that area.
In August 2017, Andrew Brock was appointed to the Board as Sales and Business Development Director, with a primary role of developing sales by working closely with our sales team. Andy brought a wealth of experience from a Director position at London General Insurance and more recently as Divisional Director for Direct Line Group. This agricultural background was consistent with the Caleb Roberts brand, making him a stand out appointment.
In 2018 Caleb Roberts expanded further to the North of the Border Counties, encorporating Tern Valley Insurance Services. Tern Valley operated with a similar demographic to Caleb Roberts and maintained the high service level associated with the Company. It was this service focused model that made the transition a simple one.
2019 saw our Church Stretton Office move to new premises in Dorrington. The move was focused on accessibility for clients and a modern working environment for colleagues. It was warmly received by both parties and set precedent for our Company image across our offices.
We have been awarded two training awards, the Welsh Assembly National Training Awards in 2008 and the Powys Training Award in 2009. These awards were in recognition of the emphasis placed on training within the company and the Chartered Insurance Institutes accredited in-house examination centre located at our Knighton Office.
