An insight into Event Insurance from Andrew Williams

If you’re holding a community event or a street party this summer, make sure you’ve got the right insurance cover.

Community events are popular across the UK, but should a member of the public make a claim against you or your organisation as a result of attending your event (following an accident or injury – potentially due to your negligence), having insurance protection in place is vital.

It is also important to remember that volunteers assisting you, would in all probability, be considered to be employees, even though not being paid.

Both Public and Employers liability cover should therefore be seriously considered. These policies can also be extended to include cancellation and equipment hire, and premiums are usually based on the number of attendees, which makes them affordable for smaller events too.

A condition for most insurances of this type is that you have carried out an appropriate risk assessment and that you will have ensured that anyone whose services you hire in – caterers, ice cream vendors -or equipment you may just have borrowed – e.g. sound equipment etc… have their own liability insurance covers, as well.

This is a requirement not always fully understood.
Whatever your event, be it a one-off celebration of the Queen’s 90th birthday, a wedding, stallholders, a village show, fireworks display or Christmas lights, one of our experienced staff members will be able to point you in the right direction and ensure you have the correct cover in place, should anything go wrong.
